Live acoustic version
This is one of those songs songwriters talk about that just sort of comes together pretty fast. Sometimes they just seem to fall out of you, or you manage to get out of your own way somehow. I don't think anyone knows for sure which is true, or if both are.
I've managed, with a lot of intent and hard work, to, for lack of a better word, train myself to enjoy myself and my life so much, that my rulebook on how to feel good has completely changed. It's a lot easier now for me to feel good than it is to feel bad. I live like a retired person, for Pete's sake, working from home, and going out every afternoon for a walk or bike ride. Pretty sweet deal. Even if the scenario wasn't that good, I'd still find a way to enjoy it, but that's part of the point; I won't suffer through things anymore. If I don't like it, I recognize that I don't like it, which isn't always easy to do, and deal with it or discard it.
What I'm trying to say is, I enjoy my life so much, that sometimes when I'm with people who are having a rough go of it, I feel so strongly I know how to help them, that I want to get my hands inside their heads somehow and just tweak a couple of things, but unfortunately, people don't want help unless they ask for it, so you have to try and help in other ways. Sometimes you just want to look into their eyes, and say, this is me talking. Trust me. Just let it go for a minute and hang out with me. Just be with me, and I promise it'll be fine.
Anyway, it's a tough one to explain properly, but that's what this song is about. [In italian accent] Trust me, I take care of you, ah?
lol, I just pasted this right from my pocket pc. You'll laugh too at the end...
Once in My Life
[Em frag-INDEX FINGER TRUST ME](resolves on G later, so leave it 'til u know)
Can't talk right now, but I know when you're forcing a [C] smile
The band's so loud. Let's go outside
'Cause, [Em] no one should [D/F] know what it's [C9] like
If that's where the pain/aching is tonight
Yeah, no one should [G] know what it's like [C9]
But if you [Am] think about us [C] You and me
Do you think about trust and I mean
'Cause [C5] I can't [G/B] take it for [G] once in my [C] life
I [C5] know what's [G/B] right for [Am] once in my [G] [C] life
But I won't [C5] wait it [G]out for [Am] once in our lives
'Cause when I [Am] think about us, [G] [C] I believe we'll be
And when I think about trust I hope you'll see I'm [G] here with you
Won't make a sound, but I'll be here just poking around
All I've found just cleared my head
When I think about us Hope you'll see
If you think about trust You can trust in me
Don't think of the loss Or what it means
And when you make it accross I'll be on my knees
And Here with you
Yeah, I'm here with you
you know it's true.
I'll be for you
Talk a clue
Shove my glue
Take a poo
Slimed by you
Greedy you
